Tin Can Customs Collects N137.2bn Revenue in August, as Anani Vows to Deal with Economic Saboteurs

The Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday announced a revenue generation of N137.2bn for the month of August.
The figure, according to the Controller, Compt. Joseph Anani, represents over 70% of the monthly revenue target of the Command.
Speaking when members of the new executive officers of the League of Maritime Editors (LOME) paid him a courtesy visit, Anani said the Command is determined to promote trade facilitation.
However, he warned that the Service will not tolerate the activities of economic saboteurs in the system, adding that importers who fail to be compliant to trade regulations will have themselves to blame.
Anani disclosed that he operates an open door policy as part of his efforts to ensure that all issues that lead to trade facilitation are addressed.
He appreciated LOME for the consistent and professional manner in which members have reported the activities of this Command.
“Your coverage has helped Nigerians to better understand the work we do, particularly our responsibilities in revenue generation, trade facilitation and, importantly, national security”, he said.
Anani added, “One area where we have seen this very clearly is in your reportage of the recent seizure of over 600 rifles by the Command. That seizure was not just another operational achievement; it was an incident with serious national security implications. We therefore sincerely appreciate the fact that you gave it the attention and prominence it deserved.
By reporting that seizure, you helped the public to appreciate the vigilance and commitment of our officers, as well as the sacrifices they make every day to ensure that dangerous and prohibited items do not find their way into our communities.

Kumuyi noted the massive seizures, including life threatening arms and illicit drugs recorded by the Command as well as impressive revenue collections over the months.
He told the Controller that the association is ready to collaborate with the Command as media professionals in publicizing its activities as has been the case in the past administrations in the port.
