The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has held strategic meeting with industry stakeholders which basically centered on sustaining free flow of ports logistics in the country.
Part of the meeting was to address issues of jurisdictional overlaps and extortion along the Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports access roads.
The organization strongly believes that addressing this issue will reposition the nation’s seaports for the hub port status within the West African sub-region.
Among those who attended the meeting were the Asst. Inspector General of Police (Maritime) AIG Nurat Okunade, the Representative of Commissioner of Transport Lagos, Mr. Ojowuro Olasunkanmi, the Secretary-General, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders NAGAFF, Dr. Godfrey Nwosu and the Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Corp Commander
Ganiyu Hamzat at the Marina, Lagos, Headquarters of the Authority.
Others who attended the meeting which was held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, were the National President and Secretary-General of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners AMARTO, Chief Remi Ogungbemi and Comrade Bala Mohammed respectively.
The Executive Director Finance and Administration of NPA, Mrs. Vivian Richard-Edet, Executive Director Marine & Operations, Engr. Olalekan Badmus and the General Manager, Security NPA, Mr. Anthony Edosomwan also attended the meeting.
Dantsoho during the meeting stressed the need for free flow of cargo in and out of the nation’s ports as a way of promoting trade facilitation.
According to him, this is even moreso as the Federal Government has been working towards attaining a hub port status in the West and Central African region.
He explained that all the reforms carried out so far which attracted the World Bank in its recent reports would be meaningless if encumbrances on port access roads hamper free flow of cargo.
