Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) on Thursday sounded a note of warning to freight forwarders that any of them without a Diploma Certificate in Freight Forwarding will not be allowed to practise by the end of 2023.
The Council said this was part of enthroning professionalism as far as the practice of freight forwarding is concerned in Nigeria.
The Registrar, Mr. Sam Nwakohu, disclosed this on the occasion of the
23rd Anniversary lecture organized by the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) in Lagos.
Nwakohu said that the Council has perfected arrangement for all intending practitioners to acquire the necessary certificates by liaising with relevant institutions of higher learning.
For instance, he disclosed that apart from other institutions, Freight Forwarding will soon be offered as a full course in Polytechnics and Universities.
Calling on freight forwarders to embrace the policy, he said that already the Governing Board of CRFFN has introduced a law to back the regulation.
He said that the CRFFN was determined to pursue professionalism to the highest level for the interest of the industry.
In his speech on the occasion, the Founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam extolled the association describing it as championing a liberation struggle.
Aniebonam said it was this that led to the birth of New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), explaining that the party serves as a platform for freight forwarders to champion their political interest.
He explained that it was better to fight from inside than from outside, adding that he has always been satisfied with what was going on in the ports.
Aniebonam advised freight forwarders to always identify that for which they are good in, saying that he has created a platform for people to benefit from.
He described NNPP as a liberation party created by NAGAFF at the time the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was founded.
He also pointed out that NAGAFF has gone ahead to establish an academy which according to him has remained critical to the training of freight forwarders.
The National President of NAGAFF, Chief Tochukwu Ezeisi in his welcome address on the occasion said his administration will continue to march forward strongly and consistently with undistracted focus towards the achievement of the mandate and promises made on assumption of office.
On the issue of operations challenges, he said NAGAFF has continued to explore all avenues for “dialogue, negotiation, stakeholders engagements and interactions in seeking mediation and resolution of attendant conflicts”.
He added, “I must say these conscious peaceful approaches of troubleshooting mechanism laid down by our founding fathers has been entrenched and internalized by NAGAFF leadership under my watch”.
Ezeisi assured the management of the Nigeria Customs Service that the association will continue to cooperate and synergize with it to ensure the achievement of its laudable mandate towards the creation of a business friendly port system where facilitation of legitimate trade shall be the watchword.
“NAGAFF will also continue to deploy our advocacy tools towards partnering with the NCS to ensure that the Nigeria Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) 1958 Amendment Bill sees the light of the day to the glory of God”.
He appealed to the government to always carry critical stakeholders along in policy formulation in order to achieve the desired result at the implementation level.
