Society Honours Monarch, UK Bello, for Promoting Nutritional Programmes in Katsina

The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, has been honoured by the Nutritional Society of Nigeria (NSN), Katsina State Chapter, for his contributions to the promotion of nutrition programmes in Katsina State.The award was presented by the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, during the opening of the Society’s two-day annual workshop held in Katsina.A statement issued by the Kanwan Katsina’s Media Aide, Jamilu Hashimu Gora, said the traditional ruler was recognised for his unwavering support for nutrition-related activities in Ketare District and across the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Radda said his administration had made significant investments in the health sector through the renovation and upgrading of hospitals and primary healthcare centres, as well as the recruitment of qualified health personnel and the provision of modern medical equipments.

The governor also disclosed that the state government had constituted a committee to oversee the Nutrition Centre at Kofar Sauri to strengthen efforts aimed at addressing malnutrition among children in the state.Responding after receiving the award, the Kanwan Katsina commended the Nutritional Society of Nigeria for its efforts in promoting good nutrition and urged the body to intensify public enlightenment campaigns on the importance of proper nutrition and healthy dietary practices.

He stressed the need to make greater use of radio and television programmes, social media, live streaming, flyers and banners to educate the public on the role of good nutrition in preventing diseases and improving healthcare outcomes.

Earlier, renowned nutrition expert, Professor Matazu mni, presented a paper on the importance of nutrition in healthcare delivery.The workshop was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Malam Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, the Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu Funtua, the General Manager of the Hospitals Services Management Board, Dr Nazir Kurfi, the Vice-Chairman of the Northern States Chapter of the Nutritional Society of Nigeria, as well as other stakeholders in the health and nutrition sector.
