After Stakeholders Consultations: Ports Infrastructure Modernisation to Begin End of Q3

The much expected rehabilitation of ports infrastructure is now to begin end of the third quarter of 2026, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has said.
The organization explained that this is as it concludes consultations and engagements with host community before mobilisation of contractors to site.
The General Manager, Public Affairs of the NPA, Mr. Ikechukwu Onyemekara, told newsmen that the organization is currently concluding what he described as non-construction processes before contractors can begin work.
The organization may be reacting to concerns in some quarters over unconfirmed report that though the country has started repaying the loan secured for the project, physical construction work is yet to start.
But the General Manager further explained that the stakeholders and community engagements were necessary since they are critical considering the scale of activities once construction starts.
He said that such engagements were necessary to prepare port users as well as communities over the presence of heavy equipment and other construction activities.
Onyemekara was reported in the Nation Newspaper, saying, “We are looking at the end of this quarter. As of now, we are preparing for stakeholder engagement and community engagement ahead of the commencement.
“You know, when they start, there will be a lot of construction activities—heavy equipment, noise and all that. We want to sensitise the stakeholders and the host communities about what is coming so that everyone understands the scope of the project. But we are looking at the end of the quarter for them to commence.”
