The Area Controller of the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, has called on officers to be steadfast as far as trade facilitation, revenue generation and anti-smuggling are concerned.

Oshoba also charged the officers to maintain professionalism and discipline in the performance of their duties.

Speaking during a monthly parade at the Command, the Controller pointed out that there is the need for greater operational interventions in all terminals to block revenue leakages while carrying out cargo clearance and seamless trade facilitation.
He said, “Officers must protect the reputation of the Service. That is why any delay by any officer concerning any consignment will not be tolerated.
“Even at the gates. If a consignment is duly exited, there should be no delay at the gates” .
“You must make yourself accessible to our stakeholders and we must avoid actions capable of tarnishing the good image of the Service and the good work being done by the CGC and members of his management.
“We should not be seen as slugs in the wheels of progress.”
Oshobo told the officers to be vigilant against smuggling activities, especially illicit drugs and prohibited items.
He also warned officers misconduct and improper dressing.
Part of the parade was the recognition of outstanding Officers and Units for exemplary service, including the Assistant Comptroller of Customs Ismail Mohammed who emerged as the Most Outstanding Officer of the Month.
Others were CSC Augustine Ondoma, ASCI Bukola Olaleye and IC Olalekan Salawu for professionalism, innovation and punctuality respectively.
Other officers of APM Terminal were given the Excellence Award on Enforcement, while Officers of ECO SUPPORT Terminal received the Excellence Award on Revenue Generation.
The Controller explained that the award initiative was specifically introduced to promote hard work, excellence, professionalism and healthy competition among Officers and Units of the Command.
