Varying infractions by the operators of three bonded terminals have forced the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to dangle their axe against them.

Three of the terminal operators were sealed, the Controller of the Customs Command, Dr. Babatunde Olomu told newsmen last week.
Olomu explained that this was as a result of various infractions which the Command could not bear.

The Area Controller disclosed that two other bonded terminals are being investigated over other trade offences.
He warned that operators against illegal activities, adding that the Command maintains a close watch.

The Controller announced the seizure of 27 containers between January and June this year with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N9.2bn.
He disclosed that the nine of the containers had unregistered pharmaceuticals, used clothing, expired margarine, wild animal skins, and codeine syrup.
He further explained that among the seizures were 10 containers of unregistered pharmaceuticals, two containers of codeine syrup, two containers of stolen vehicles, and four containers of second-hand clothing.
Olomu said, “These 27 container seizures are a fallout of our efforts to prevent Nigerians from unwholesome foods and drugs, stop illicit trade, and protect our local industries.
“We will never compromise the health, well-being, or safety of Nigerians on the altar of trade facilitation. Every consignment passing through our port undergoes diligent checks through scanning and physical examination when required.”
