Umuida, Diamond Club Mourn Passage of Community Leader, VP, Ike Onuh

The people of Umuida Community in Enugu Ezike, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu state, have been thrown into deep sorrow over the passage of a community leader, Hon Ike Onuh.
Onuh died at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, on Friday, February 13, at the age of 60, after a brief illness, according to the family.
Until his death, Onuh, a businessman, Chairman of the Think Home Group, an Enugu-based property development and block-making company, was the Coordinator of Umuida Union, an umbrella organisation of all Umuida associations in Nigeria.
Since the announcement of his passage, people of the Community, have been full of bitterness, lamenting over his sudden demise, describing it as a big blow to the community.
Many who spoke described him as a good leader with wonderful characteristics, adding that the community would surely miss him.
A banker, Mr Onyeka Abugu, while reacting over the death of Ike said,
“Umuida has lost another fine comrade par excellence. An embodiment of a true gentlemanliness in every sense. His absence leaves a void words cannot fill”.
Similarly, a lecturer with the Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu, Dr. Mark Ugwoke, also added, “the passing of Ike, is indeed heartbreaking and hard to believe”.
The Publisher of Abeya News Online, Mr Felix Abugu, who reacted over Ike’s passage, stated “he was a personable, socially mobile and well-connected political personality, who was at the head of many development initiatives in his community”
Abugu said the people of the community have been very bitter since the news of his passage was made public.
Members of the Ezike Diamond Club, where Onu is the Vice President, have also been sorrowful since the news of his death.
The President of the Club, Mr. Wilfred Eya, in his reaction over the bad news, said he has been speechless.
Eya said in a whatsapp post, “DIAMONDS. ….the worst has happened. Our VP, Ike Onu is dead. I am shattered. ”
Another member, Chief Frank Agbedo, a lawyer, also said, “U mean our humour master is gone? Just like that? Nke madu ekpoo! This news is unbelievable. Stranger than fiction”.
In his reaction, Onuh’s former boss, Prince Emeka Mama (Nwa Ifesina Chi) in his grief wrote: “
“This life still a mystery and why life in the first instance only to die at this very young Age”.
Another member of the Club, Mr Ted Ejemba, who was among those that accompanied Ike’s corpse to the mortuary, also lamented over the incident.
Ojimba wrote” : I’m just coming back from the mortuary.
Ike died smiling. I’ve never seen a smiling corpse before, very serene and peaceful.
“And the sister, told me that his last words were “I’ve lost the battle, take me to Ogrute. There’s no need staying here”.
Former President of the Club, Chief Frank Odo, in response to Ojimba’s conversation on the platform said, “ A sign that signifies he is already resting in perfect peace. He saw where he was going to, and it was pleasing and acceptable to him.
“ GOD: Iyk was indeed a jolly good fellow. Dying smiling is a good sign , a peaceful ending , and a welcome home into divine ️ . Imagine that he died on a lovers’ day !!!”.
Meanwhile, the family, in a statement issued by Mr. Anthony Onuh, said late Onuh will be buried at his country home, Ogene-Umuonu on April 17 and 18, 2026.
He is survived by wife, Uzo, four children, brothers, sisters, cousins and uncles, among whom is Mr Anthony Onuh.
