Smuggling: Customs Intercepts N352m Cannabis Sativa, Textiles, Others in Lagos

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted cannabis sativa, textile materials, bags of sugar, among others in Lagos.
Details of the seizures include 481 loaves of cannabis sativa, four locally constructed fibre boats, five locally constructed wooden boats, 72 bundles of foreign textiles and seven bags of sugar.
The items were all intercepted across the Lagos waterways, according to the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Controller Patrick Ntadi .
Ntadi who briefed newsmen on the seizures put the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the items at ₦352,952,200.
He said that the operation which led to the seizures was part of the efforts of the Command to ensure that the nation’s borders and economy were protected.
Other seizures, he disclosed, include 2,017 bags of foreign parboiled rice, valued at ₦212,995,200; seven sacks of 50kg sugar, valued at ₦672,000; seventy-two rolls of foreign plain textile material, with a DPV of ₦71,280,000; and 481 loaves of cannabis sativa, with a DPV of ₦50,505,000.
He said that the seizures were made possible through improved intelligence gathering and synergy with other security agencies.
Ntadi was full of appreciation to Comptroller-General Adeniyi and his management team, adding that they provided the necessary resources and equipment which helped the Command in its operations.
