Shippers’ Council Team Visits Customs, Offers to Partner in Cross Border Trade

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council team has visited the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Command at Idiroko Border, Ogun State, as part of the efforts to promote cross border trade and deepen inter-agency partnership.
The Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Pius Akutah was represented on the visit by the Deputy Director, Trade Services, Ms Ms. Adaora Nwonu .
The visit is seen as NSC’s efforts to engage strategic stakeholders in trade and logistics chain to contribute to the development of an efficient and accountable port and border ecosystem.
Adaora was received on the occasion by the Controller of the Border station, Comptroller G. Otunla.
During the meeting, discussions were focused on strengthening operational ties, identifying joint strategies for the two agencies to be battle trade barriers and ensure ethical practices along the border corridor.
The engagement also explored the roles of both agencies in streamlining border processes and supporting the goal set by the federal government in boosting regional commerce.
Nwonu said the ports economic regulator was committed to enhancing every collaboration with the Customs Service to promote cross border trade facilitation for economic development.
She said, “The Nigerian Shippers’ Council remains committed to supporting Customs and other border agencies in creating a seamless trade environment.
” We are here to deepen this relationship and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic growth” .
On the other hand, Comptroller Otunla expressed appreciation over the active role of the Council in promoting trade facilitation in the country.
The Controller said the Customs was always open to collaborating with the Council and other stakeholders to ensure smooth movement of goods and check smuggling in border areas.
The Controller led NSC team on a facility tour to the office space allocated to the Council to use for the proposed Border Information Centre which will prove information flow, transparency, and compliance at the border station.
