A team of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) last week held a fruitful meeting with the Abia State Government on how the Isiala Ngwa Inland Dry Port (IDP) project can be moved forward.
The NSC team led by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Pius Akutah, during a courtesy visit to Gov Alex Otti, expressed the need for the active collaboration between the state government and the concessionaires for the IDP project.
Akutah told Governor Oti that the collaboration of the state government will bring about a lot of economic benefits for the state, adding that it will go further to transform the region and reposition it as trade hub in the South East.
Akutah assured that his Council is committed to the provision of every technical and regulatory support for the success of the project, making it a tool for economic transformation.
Governor Otti, in his response appreciated the team for the visit to the state, assuring that it was his desire for the IDP to begin operation in the state.
He pointed out the need for a functional railway system which according to him, can move cargoes from the seaport to the IDP to be able to reduce costs and ensure competitiveness.
Isiala Ngwa IDP was among the dry ports gazetted in 2006 and being championed by the NSC.
