• I’m devastated by his death – laments Sarumi
• We lost a colossus – Bello

The former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Chief Aebayo Sarumi and also the former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr Hassan Bello have all reacted to the sad passage of the late Otunba Kunle Folarin who died in Lagos on Tuesday at the age of 82.
Sarumi and Bello in a chat with SHIPPING DAY described the passage of Folarin as a big loss to the nation because of his wealth of experience in the maritime industry.
Sarumi said that he was particularly devastated on learning about the death of Folarin who he described as a “mentor and lifelong coach”.
According to Sarumi, “I am devastated and yet to find my voice.
I have lost a personal mentor and lifelong coach. Nigeria’s Maritime Industry had lost a selfless indefatigable quintessential beacon, indeed a compass. How do we all find direction?”
Similarly, Bello described Folarin as one who was “vast and analytical and incisive” in the nation’s maritime industry.
Bello said that as former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Folarin assisted the council in its regulatory role especially on “tariff setting,
Intra and inter port competition as well as stakeholders engagement”.
Bello added, “He was lively in his discussions. He was vast and analytical and incisive. Sadly, he lacked the financial independence to make PCC make impact\”.
Folarin was the Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) and Chairman of the National Seafarers Welfare Board (NSWB) until his passage.
