NPA Moves to Check Unauthorised Truck Diversions, Installs Electronic Access System at Terminals

In a move aimed at checking unauthorized truck diversions, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has directed the installation of electronic access systems at the seaports terminals.
The electronic barrier systems installed at the terminals within the Lagos Ports Complex LPC, Apapa, is part of the efforts to improve on operational efficiency and traffic management in the ports.
The measure followed after consultation with stakeholders and aims at addressing the issue of unauthorized truck diversions that can affect terminal efficiency, flow of traffic and productivity of the ports.
To ensure seamless coordination and transparency in truck movements, the Electronic Barriers, according to a statement from the organization, have been fully integrated with the Electronic Call-Up System for haulage trucks, also called Eto, which is managed by Trucks Transit Parks Ltd TT.
With the system. only trucks with valid Eto-issued call-up tickets are granted access to terminal facilities, thereby eliminating unauthorized entries and enhancing gate control operations, the statement explained.
Part of the statement reads, “We are pleased to announce that as of Monday, September 1, 2025, all terminals within the Lagos Ports Complex will commence full live operations using the Integrated Electronic Barrier System.
“This milestone represents a significant advancement in the NPA’s drive for enhanced automation and modernisation of port infrastructure in Nigeria and reflects the Authority’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business Agenda, promoting transparency and accountability, enhancing Port operational efficiency and strengthening truck traffic management.
