The management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has assured that staff welfare development is paramount along with the ongoing port infrastructure and equipment modernization project.
Managing Director of NPA, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho gave this assurance recently while responding to the commendation by the leadership of the Maritime Workers Union (MWUN) and the senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned companies (SSASGOC) on the decision of the management to clear the age long problem of employee stagnation.
In a statement by the General Manager, Corporate & Strategic Communications, of the organization, Mr. Ikechukwu Onyemekara, the MD said this during a courtesy visit by the Union leaders to the NPA headquarters in Lagos.
Dantsoho said, “our Port infrastructure and equipment modernization drive will go hand in hand with continuous staff welfare improvement”.
According to him, the organisation’s human capital development constitutes the key strategy for the creation and sustenance of superior performance under his leadership.
He added, “talent development constitutes a critical success factor for the actualization of the big hairy audacious goals we have set for ourselves especially in the area of Port competitiveness.
“The only way we can meet and indeed exceed Stakeholders’ expectations is to deepen the competencies of our human resources assets and boosting their morale”.
Dantsoho in his speech was full of commendation to the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola for the approval to the strategic proposal of the management team that led to the solution of a decade-long problem of lack of promotion that had fuelled industrial disharmony.
The MD said, “I must specially appreciate our amiable Minister for graciously approving the multi-pronged stratagem we deployed that cleared all outstanding cases of employee stagnation by conducting examinations in one fell swoop and instituted timelines to forestall a recurrence of such anomaly”.
President of Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations & Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), Comrade Bodunde in his speech said the Union was happy with the management team under Dantsoho for the staff welfare development.
Bodunde also appreciated the MD for not just clearing the backlog of stagnated promotions but also for increasing the “productivity bonuses, provision of end-of-year welfare packages for staff, and the revision of the Financial Guide to the Condition of Service, which now addresses our members’ concerns about inflationary pressures.”
