Customs Zone A Impounds N2.1bn Goods in March

It was a harvest season for the operatives of the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, which on Tuesday announced seizures of different goods worth N2.1bn for the month of March.
Among the seized items according to the Controller of the FOU, Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu, include 41 containers of expired and illicit drugs worth N1.4 billion and other goods with Duty Paid Value of N694,462,150.00.
Ejibunu told newsmen that the seizures followed strategies adopted by the operatives of the Command.
He also said that the drugs which were among the seized items would be handed over NAFDAC.
Part of the seizures include 6,228 x 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, 35,325 litres of premium motor spirit, 279 cartons of foreign poultry products and 105 parcels (50kg) of cannabis sativa.
Others were 2x40ft containers with 883 bales of used clothes, 8 units of foreign used (Tokunbo) vehicles, with total Duty Paid Value of N694,462,150.00.
The Controller said that five suspects have been arrested in connection with some of the seizures.
