Bill to Re-enact Customs Act, Establish NCS Board Passed
A bill to repeal and re-enact the Customs and Excise Management Act 2004 was on Wednesday passed by the senate.
This followed the report presented by the Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariffs.
Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Francis Alimikhena explained that the passage of the bill was to drive economic growth and trade facilitation.
“It will also provide for the NCS a consolidated single legal reference document instead of multiple enactments,’’ he said at plenary.
He further explained that when signed into law the bill will make Nigeria Customs Service a legal entity under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning
Under bill the Board will serve Nigerians and facilitate international trade better
The bill, he added has 283 clauses, and will seek to update the Customs and Excise Management Act in terms of Customs operations globally.
