Assures of transforming Nigerian ports

The helmsman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Mr Mohammed Bello-Koko who recently was confirmed as the substantive Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is indeed full of gratitude to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi, for the part he played in the whole good news.

Bello Koko spent between May 2021 and second week of February 2022 on acting capacity as the Managing Director of the NPA before President Muhammadu Buhari gave his approval to confirm his appointment.
At a point it would appear as if his confirmation was going to hit to rocks until the good news came.
Koko acknowledges that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi did so much for this to be possible after negative efforts in some quarters did stop Amaechi and Buhari from giving him the job.

Shortly after the good news, Koko was full of commendation to the President and the Minister.

This was contained in his Twitter handle while reacting to his appointment.

He said he was full of appreciation to the President, adding that Rotimi Amaechi played a prominent role for his appointment to be possible.

In his tweet on Thursday last week, he assured that he will not disappoint the government and the industry stakeholders.

According to him, NPA under his leadership will be open to investment to develop deep seaports in the country.

He said, “With my experience as the Executive Director F&A and later Acting Managing Director, I will continue to work with all stakeholders to create an institution that is responsive to the expectations of the government, maritime industry, and the general public.
“As we move to complete the Lekki Port, we are open to investments to develop other strategic deep seaports in the country.
“I’m not unaware of the enormity of the task reposed on me. I will, therefore, carry it out with utmost diligence and put the national interest ahead and above anything else.”
Koko took over from the former MD, Hadiza Bala Usman who was suspended and later removed from office.
