GoG: Tanker Feared Hijacked, Released, Cargo Stolen by Pirates

A product tanker, B OCEAN, was on Monday feared hijacked but released.
The incident occurred around around 2330 UTC Jan 24 when contact with the ship was lost around south of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Gulf of Guinea, reports FleetMon online.
The Ship’s AIS was also off with signal reappearing at 1946 UTC Jan 25, latest AIS dated around 0000 UTC Jan 26.
The tanker was sailing towards Abidjan at some 9 knots speed, with no Navy/security ships or boats visible around.
The report added that at a point it was not known what exactly happened, whether tanker was hijacked, and if hijacked, what was it pirates were after – kidnapping of the crew or stealing the cargo.
Tanker is understood to be deployed as a bunker tanker in Ivory Coast waters.
However latest update by Dryad confirmed the attack and hijack of the vessel.
Pirates were said to have stolen cargo and fled, but crew were safe.
Meanwhile, a general cargo ship MANASSA ROSE M ran aground in the morning Jan 25 on northwest Crete island coast in Kissamos Bay, while en route from Iskenderun Turkey to Misrata Libya.
According to not yet confirmed reports, the ship broke in two, understood weather is the main cause of the disaster – ship apparently, tried to find a shelter from a storm, but either went out of control, or couldn’t hold on against wind and sea, and finally, ran aground on the beach. 10 crew were rescued, 2 of them reportedly had to be hospitalize with hypothermia.
