ICDs in Kano, Katsina to Take Off Before May, Says ICRC
The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) on Thursday gave indication that the Inland Container Depot (ICDs) in Dala, Kano State and another in Funtua, Katsina State will flag off operations before May this year.
The Acting Director-General of ICRC, Michael Ohiani, disclosed that this followed a meeting between it, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and concessionaires.
He explained that the meeting was mainly to address issues that have been obstacles in the completion of the facilities for close to 17 years.
He expressed dismay that 17 years after the concession agreements were signed, most of the ICDs have remained at five percent completion level and only two with appreciable progress.
He told newsmen, “We want to rub minds and come up with how we can make progress: what are the challenges taking into consideration that these projects have already gotten the President’s attention and more so, we need to decongest our seaports”.
Dala ICD has 20,000 TEUs capacity while Funtua can handle 10,000 TEUs.
