eNaira: CBN Alerts Nigerians on Moves by Fraudsters, Denies N50bn Disbursement

As fraudsters take advantage of the digital currency to swindle Nigerians, the Central Bank has denied any plan to disburse N50bn through eNaira.
The claim by the fraudsters is that the CBN is disbursing N50bn eNaira to Nigerians.
The CBN Director, Corporate Communications, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, in a statement alerted Nigerians that some fraudsters used a a fraudulent twitter handle, @enaira_cbdc posting messages about the disbursement.
He said that the idea was to defraud innocent Nigerians through the links for the eNaira disbursement.
According to the statement, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Central of Nigeria (CBN) is not the owner of that twitter handle (@enaira_cbdc) and indeed suspended its presence on Twitter following the federal government’s ban.
“In effect, the bank is not disbursing eNaira currency to citizens.”
The CBN advised Nigerians to always seek clarification of such fraudulent moves by visiting the eNaira through its website, www.enaira.gov.ng.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday launched the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), which is known as eNaira as part of the efforts to ease the payment system and transactions.

Buhari while launching eNaira said its introduction will see to the rise of Nigeria’s country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
According to him, it is projected that with e-Naira, Nigeria’s GDP will rise by $29 billion in the next 10 years.
