Buhari, Jonathan Mourn Gulak, Describe Attack as Heinous

President Muhammadu Buhari Sunday expressed concerns over the murder of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Hon. Ahmed Gulak, in Owerri Imo state by unknown gunmen.
In a statement by the spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President said, “I’m repulsed by such premeditated and gruesome murder of Gulak by evil people who are determined to undermine the peace, unity and territorial integrity of our country.”
He warned that the government would do everything to ensure that those responsible for “callous and criminal elements are brought to justice.”
The President condoled the family of Gulak as well as the Government of Adamawa State for the sad incident.
Similarly, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, former President Jonathan while condemning the act prayed for his soul to rest in peace and for the family to bear the shock of his demise.
The statement reads, “I received with shock the death of Alhaji Ahmed Gulak who died on Sunday, May 30, 2021, in Owerri, Imo State.
“Gulak was a loyal public servant and dedicated patriot who gave his all in service to his country. His death is a painful loss to me and many others who worked and interacted with him.
“He will be remembered for his modest contributions to the growth of our nation’s democracy, especially his memorable days both as a skilful speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly and political adviser in our administration.
“My deepest condolences to his family, the government and the people of Adamawa State, who are bound to feel the loss of this eminent and patriotic Nigerian.
“May God grant his family, friends and supporters solace, even as I appeal for calm while law enforcement bodies carry out their investigations.”
The Police in Imo State had said that the operatives had killed the attackers Gulak.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abutu Yaro,disclosed that a team of operatives from the Tactical Units, Intelligence Response Team, Police Mobile Force carried out the operation that killed the attacks of Gulak.
His remains were laid tor est in Abuja cemetry Sunday.
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bala Elkana had issued a statement Sunday, saying Gulak left his Protea Hotel in a car without informing the Police for protection.
The statement reads, “On the 30/5/2021, at about 07:20hours, armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Ahmed Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight.”
“He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport.
“The Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, has directed a discreet investigation into the matter as Tactical and Special Forces have been deployed to cordon the area and arrest perpetrators’.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 200 students have been reportedly kidnapped at Islamiyya school in Niger state.
Reports said the incident occurred at Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State at 4.30pm on Sunday.
