Master of Container Ship Dies, Vessel Banned from Entry by Malaysia, Singapore
* Another ship loses stability
The Captain of Italian container ship ITAL LIBERA got sick and died on board while the ship was in Indian ocean. This was during a scheduled trip from Durban South Africa to Singapore.
FleetMon reports that the sad news appeared on Apr 13, when the ship was approaching Malacca Strait. The ship was banned from entering Singapore, because the rumor was, he died from covid.
ITAL LIBERA had to sail to Jakarta, she anchored at Jakarta anchorage on Apr 19 and since then, remains anchored, because Indonesia like Singapore and prior to Singapore, Malaysia, refused entry, to allow Captain’s body transfer to Italy and carry out all the formalities.
Nice times, nice countries, nice morals. We’re fighting the pandemic, right?
Captain boarded the ship on Apr 1 at Durban, arriving there via Doha and Johannesburg. He’s said to die “from covid”, but what exactly does it mean? He was 62-year old. Did he suffer heart attack? And most importantly – was he, or wasn’t, vaccinated, before boarding the ship?..reports FleetMon Online.
Meanwhile, a container ship LIMA VALERIE suffered stability loss and developed heavy list in Singapore, assumedly on Apr 15 or later. Salvage company already contracted to right the ship.
As of May 3, LIMA VALERIE was moored at Pasir Panjang Terminal 2 berth, reports FleetMon online.
