Shoot Bearers of Illegal Weapons, Buhari Orders Security Agents
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday ordered security agents to shoot down anyone carrying weapons illegally, particularly those with AK-47.
In an interview with BBC, the President’s spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu said the President gave the order in order to check rising insecurity in the country.
He said that this was part of the effort’s efforts to ensure that bandits who refused to surrender were stopped in their criminal activities.
Shehu also said that the President has ordered that kinetic warfare should be deployed against the bandits.
The Presidential spokesman ws quoted saying, “the president has ordered security forces to go into the bushes and shoot whoever they see with sophisticated weapons like AK-47.
“He ordered that whoever is seen with terrible weapons at all should be shot immediately.”
Meanwhile, the North-east Governors’ Forum, has called on the service chiefs to devise strategies that will ddress the issue of insecurity in the country.
The governors who met in Bauchi expressed concerns that the insecurity in the country was beginning to defy solutions and has affected national life.
Chairman of the Forum and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, hinted of the need to form a security outfit backed by consitution as in other parts of the country for the sake of achieving security.
He said, “If, and when we decide on a regional security outfit, the vigilante groups and Civilian JTFs in our respective states may form the basis for the outfit.
“The most formidable and by far the most daunting challenge we, in the North-east and indeed Nigeria as a whole, have is the current security situation which seems to be defying solutions and which has a telling effect on virtually all aspects of our lives.”
