The Managing Director of Bua Limited may be invited by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over the 43.2kg cocaine discovered among bulk sugar during discharge operations at the Josepdam Terminal, Tin Can Island port, Lagos.
The bulk sugar is said to belong to Bua Limited, a bulk sugar importer and producer.
SHIPPING DAY gathered that having interviewed some of the officials of Bua and Josepdam Terminal who first saw the cocaine cargo without useful information, the next option would be to invite the MD of Bua for an interview.
A crane operator had discovered the drug while discharging sugar on board the vessel.
The crane operator had on discovering what he suspected was different from the sugar consignment being discharged called in a colleague working with the terminal operator.
It was the colleague who also decided to draw the attention of an agent working for Josepdam.
It was at this stage that the attention of the operatives of the NDLEA was drawn who moved in immediately and took away the consignment.
The NDLEA had taken into custody three people connected with the job of discahrging the bulk cement, but has not been able to get useful information from them.
The NDLEC had secured a court order empowering it to keep the suspects in detention withut trial for over 48 hours.
A source told SHIPPING DAY that the BUA MD may have been written an official letter for an interview with the NDLEA officials this week.
The source said the drug law enforcement agency is perplexed as to who are behind the drugs and would continue its investigation until it receives useful information to apprehend the importers.
The agency is suspecting that there is a strong sindicate behind the drug import who are yet to be dsicovered.
