The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First City Monument Bank Limited (FCMB), Mr. Adam Nuru, has proceeded on what appears a forced leave over allegation of paternity scandal against him.
The bank is investigating an allegation that his romance with a former employee, Mrs Moyo Thomas, led to the death of the husband, Mr Tunde Thomas, about two weeks ago.
As at January 3, thousands of Nigerians had signed an online petition to the Central Bank calling for the sack of the FCMD.
In a statement Tuesday, the bank said Nuhu has voluntarily gone on leave, adding that this will help in the investigation against him.
According to the Bank in the statement, “We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’s Managing Director Adam Nuru, a former employee, Mrs Moyo Thomas and her deceased husband, Mr. Tunde Thomas.
“While this is a personal matter, the tragedy of the death of Mr. Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct require the bank’s board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of this code of ethics. This is already under way.
“During the period of the review, the managing director has volunteered to proceed on leave. This will guarantee the sanctity of the review process. We enjoin all our stakeholders to bear with us as we conduct this review and to please respect the various families involved.”
Mrs. Moyo Thomas, a former employee of FCMB while with the husband allegedly dated the bank’s MD who is seen as the father of the two children.
On learning about this development, Mr Thomas was struck with stroke, recovered later and was about to wed another woman but died two weeks ago.
It was said that the lady Mr Thomas was about to web was already pregnant for him before he died.
The petitioners said the trauma of learning about the relationship between the former wife and the FCMB boss was responsible for the death of Thomas.
Incidentally, the wife was alleged to have travelled out of the country with the children when the whole affair was blown open.
