*Churches advise member to follow directives
The Lagos State and Ogun State governments have ruled out completely cross over night vigils in churches as has always been the tradition at the end of every year.
The strong position of the governments was part of the measures to check the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the states.
The decision is also inline with federal government’s curfew which starts from 12am-4am also to combat the spread of covid.
Both Lagos and Ogun state governments warned that those who flout this order will face the wrath of the law.
In Ondo state, the government had also warned churches from holding night vigils for the sake of safeguarding public health.
But in Oyo state, the state government relaxed the curfew to allow for cross over night vigils.
However, churches in Lagos have advised their members to keep to the rules of the state government.
The Catholic church in Lagos has already sent messages to parishioners that there will not be any cross over night vigils as has always been the tradition.
Other churches in Lagos and Ogun including The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) and Living Faith Church Worldwide, have also advised their parishioners to abide by the directives of the governments.
Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) also advised members to comply with the directives of the state governments and avoid cross over night vigils.
