Lagos Relaxes Curfew, to Arraign 229 Suspects over Destruction of Properties
The Lagos state government Sunday reviewed the curfew imposed on the state after violence that trailed the EndSARS protest.
In a statement issued by the Information Commissioner, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, the curfew is now from 8pm to 6am until further notice.
Omotosho in the statement said, “the curfew in Lagos State has been reviewed. Restriction time is now 8pm to 6am. Lagosians are enjoined to plan their journey times as they go about their lawful businesses. Public schools remain shut till further notice.”
The state government is also to prosecute 229 suspects who took part in the destructon and looting of both public and private properties in different parts of the state.
The looting followed the #EndSARS protests and killings at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos.
Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi is said to have obtained the number of arrests by the Police in the state of those involved in thelooting and destruction.
She disclosed in a statement that 229 suspects arrested by the Police will be charged for arson, murder, stealing, malicious damage of properties today Monday.
She also said that those who have no case to answer will be relesed, adding that the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN has appealed to residents to maintain peace, law and order in the state.
The state governmen had said that it will need about N1trllion to replace or repair the public and private facilities that were damaged during the protests.
