Lagos Govt Reacts as Hoodlums Break into Warehouse, Loot Covid Palliatives

Hoodlums Thursday broke into a warehouse in Mazamaza, Amuwo Odofin local government, Lagos, where covid-19 palliatives were stored and carted them away.
The action of the hoodlums was a big opportunity for thousands of residents who stormed the warehouse to also take their own bags of rice and other items.
According to social media clips, apart from rice, among other items stored and carted away by the ressidents were garri, beans and noodles
It was gathered that vehicles belonging to the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Customs, Nigeria Police and others also took part in carting away the palliatives.
Residents were overheard saying that the items have been in the warehouse since May this year and were wondering what has prevented officials of the government from distributing them to Lagosians.
Reacting the the incident, the acting Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, in a statement condemned the action of the hoodlums.
She said the foodstuffs were donated to the government by the private sector-led Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID).
Olusanya further disclosed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on September 22, formally taken delivery of the goods for distribution.
She also said that the warehouse was not owned by the state government but made available to the CACOVID group.
She said the state government was to commence re-bagging of the food items for distribution to South West states before the attack.
