EU Supports Okonjo-Iweala for WTO DG
Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance and candidate for the position of the Director-General (DG) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has received the support of the European Union (EU) governments.
In a report by Bloomberg the EU governments also selected the South Korean candidate, Yoo Myung-hee, as the second contender for the job.
This was as WTO’s General Council will meet today to reduce the number of candidates from five candidates now in the race for WTO job to two.
Bloomberg reported that EU member-country envoys took the decision in Brussels Monday to endorse Okonjo-Iweala for the job.
The group also endorsed Yoo Myung-hee of South Korea’s trade chief for the WTO job.
