BPE: Ex-PHCN Workers Paid N409.9bn Benefits
The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) Monday said the former employees of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), have so far been paid N409, 915,331,675.45 as severance and death benefits.
Head of Public Communications, Mrs. Amina Othman Tukur, in a statement said the payment was in two categories of severance payments to former active staff and payment to retirees/death benefits to those affected which it said PHCN failed to pay before successor companies took over.
The statement added that of the 47, 913 PHCN staff list submitted to it, 47,275 which is about 99 percent, have been paid.
Tukur said the problem has however been in cohesion among the agencies expected to organise post-retirement training for the former staff.
