NNPC Loses 4.36 million Oil Barrels to Power Outage
Power outage in the country dealt a big blow to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) leading to the closing down of 14 crude oil export terminals in April and May.
Apart from power outage, NNPC also suffered pipeline leakage in some of the terminals that forced the corporation to close the export terminals.
In the Corporation’s latest monthly report, the closing down of the terminals led to a loss of 4.36 million barrels of oil which could not be produced during the period that the terminals were shut down.
Among the terminals affected by power outage were Egina, Forcados, Eweresigbene, Odidi and Agbami.
Egina terminal was shut between April 1-6 and 13-15) as a result power outage and faulty transmitter resulting in the loss of 441,443 barrels of crude oil.
The report showed that Forcados terminal was shutdown between April 4 and 6 due to leakages at Eweresigbene and Odidi leading to a total loss of 1.62 million barrels in nine days.
Bonny terminal was also shut down due to fire incident at Trans Niger Pipeline on April 9 in which about 30,000 barrels per day for two days were lost.
Leakages at Moneygram/Adamakiri axis led to the shutdown of Nembe Creek Trunk Line in which 120,000 bpd were lost in four days
At Agbami and Qua Iboe terminals 105,076 barrels and 427,041 barrels were also lost due to shutdown due to safety instrumentation system test and flare valve failure.
The shutdown of Erha terminal between April 4 and 26 led to the loss of 582,176 barrels, while at Brass Terminal 37,000 barrels were lost due to vandalisation on April 8 which affected production.
Other places include Akpo terminal – 160,170 barrels lost due to gas leakage; Bonga terminal – 80,000 barrels; Yoyo terminal – 208,797 barrels.
