Customs Sacks 2 ACGs, Promotes 2,639 Officers
*Receives FG approval to acquire N10.5bn scanners, patrol boats
The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) Wednesday announced the sack of two Assistants Comptroller-General of Customs (ACGs) and promotion of 2,639 Officers.
The ACGs booted out of the Service for what the Service described as ‘serious misconduct’ were Aminu Dahiru and Bashir Abubakar while five others were promoted to the rank of ACGs.
Among those promoted to the rank of ACGs according to the Public Relations Officer of the Customs, Mr Joseph Attah in a statement were Mohammed Boyi – Doctrine Development; Adewale Adeniyi – Commandant Customs Command and Staff College Gwagwalada ; Jack Ajoku – Strategic Research and Policy;
Olakunle Oyeleke – Training and Coordination and Elton Edorhe – Zonal Coordinator, Zone C Owerri.
The promotion exercise was announced during the 52nd regular meeting of the Board in Abuja presided over by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning and Chairman, NCS Board, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed.
Ahmed said the promotion which takes effect January 2019, including those of the 2,634 officers was to ginger the personnel to work harder and move the Service forward.
A breakdown of the promotion exercise showed that 37 Deputy Comptrollers were moved to the ranks of Comptrollers of Customs; 110 Assistant Comptrollers of Customs – Deputy Comptrollers; 138 Chief Superintendent of Customs – Assistant Comptrollers; 93 Superintendent of Customs – Chief Superintendent of Customs.
Others include 93 Deputy Superintendent of Customs who were promoted to the ranks of Superintendent of Customs; 1224 Assistant Superintendent of Customs I – Deputy Superintendent of Customs; 475 Assistant Superintendent of Customs II – Assistant Superintendent of Customs I and 464 Inspector of Customs were promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Customs II.
The statement added that 205 out of the 2,634 support staff were also promoted.
In another development, the Service also received the approval of the Federal Government to acquire scanners and boats valued at N10.5 billion.
The equipment will be for Onne, Port Harcourt ports in Rivers State, and Tin Can Island Port in Lagos State.
Ahmed said, “We presented two memos. The first memo was sought council’s approval for the revision of a contract that was previously approved by the council in 2018 for the supply and installation of three numbers Rapsican mobile cargo scanners.
“These are large size cargo scanners that will be placed in Onne Port, Port Harcourt Port and Tin Can Port. They are scanners that can drive containers through. That will fasten inspection.” .
