Bill Prescribes Life Jail for Kidnappers
A bill was passed by the Senate Tuesday prescribing a life jail for kidnappers.
Known as Criminal Code Amendment Bill, the bill raised the penalty from 10 years imprisonment to life in the Southern states of the federation.
The provisions of the Bill which was sponsored by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, include amendments to 364(2) of the principal Act in which the provision for 10 years was substituted with life imprisonment.
The amendment of the Bill according to the Senate was in accordance with section 315 of the Constitution in which the National Assembly has is given the power amend the criminal code Act of an existing law.
