NDLEA Intercepts 223kg Marijuana Hidden in Toyota SUV
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a Toyota SUV carrying 223kg of marijuana in Kano state.
Commander of NDLEA, Kano, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, told newsmen on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Thursday that the vehicle was intercepted along Kano-Zaria road.
Abdul said the drugs were found with 300 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa in the engine side of the tank.
He said that following this, the driver of the vehicle who was identified as Osayae has been arrested and now facing prosecution.
He also disclosed that a syndicate of drug barons who are into cocaine were arrested with 100 grammes of cocaine.
He added that the Command has seized over 2.8 tons of illegal drugs since the state was lockdowned as a result of coronavirus pandemic.
He also said the Command also received drugs seized by other agencies to the tune of 1.2tons.
Abdul said so far 565 suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizures between June 2019 to date.
He said out of this number, 16 were females who also deal in illegal drugs.
