Court Remands Two Cousins for Rape, Murder of Maersk MD’s Wife
Two cousins, Olamilekan Oke and Akande Adeyinka, have been remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi Correctional Centre for the alleged rape and murder of Bernadette Tohouo Tohouo, wife of the Managing Director of Maersk Nigeria Limited, Gildas Tohouo Tohouo in Lagos.
The alleged rape and murder took place in December 8 at the Ikoyi residence of the couple.
The suspects had appeared before the Lagos High Court in Igbosere where they are being tried in charge filed by the Lagos state government.
The two suspects are facing eight count charges of conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, unlawful assault, robbery, armed robbery, and rape.
Lagos state prosecuting counsel, Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN told the court that the suspects committed the offence at 7:30 pm at No 1, Lugard Avenue Ikoyi Lagos.
He said that the suspects raped and killed their victim to death before stealing two iPhones, two bottles of wine, two wedding rings and one engagement ring.
They had killed Bernadetta, a Hungarian, by using pillow suffocate her to death
They had also tried to kill the husband, a camerouninan, by stabbing him in several parts of his body.
The offences, he said were contrary to and punishable under Sections 233, 230, 173, 299, 297 (2) (a) 411, of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The two suspects had pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
They were represented by A.O. Odusanya of the Office of the Public Defender, Mrs L.Y. Salau and I. T. Akingbade, from Legal Aid Council.
Justice Modupe Nico-Clay had remanded the defendants after their pleas for not guilty were taken.
