Nigeria Imports COVID-19 Drugs from Bangladesh
Nigeria has ordered for COVID-19 pandemic drugs from Bangladesh.
Thisday Newspaper reports that Nigeria will today take delivery of the drugs.
The paper quoted Dhaka Tribune which on its online edition Sunday , reported that a special flight with the medicines, medical supplies, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, last night for Lagos.
The paper said the emergency flight was loaded with a consignment of Remdesivir and Remivir, two drugs believed to be helpful in the treatment of COVID-19, which were hurriedly purchased by the Nigerian government as the country’s cases of the virus continue to rise.
The report said the drugs, among others, would be used in treating a governor, whose identity was not disclosed, THISDAY report said.
According to the report, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, telephoned his Bangladeshi counterpart, Dr. AK Abdul Momen, on Saturday night to seek assistance, including permission for its emergency plane to land in Dhaka in preparations for evacuating the medical supplies.
The plane, it was learnt, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at about 5pm yesterday and departed for Nigeria with medicines within a short time.
Meanwhile, Lagos state which in the past few months has recorded high cases Sunday recorded only 38 cases out of the 260 new cases.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said the total number of COVID-19 is 12,486, with 3,959 persons discharged while 354 lost their lives.
