Truck Owners to Slash Rate by 30 %
*As NSC reminds truck owners of adherence to health, safety guidelines
Truck owners have promised to slash their rate for movement of cargo from the ports to any part of the country by 30 percent.
This was following a meeting with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NLC) where the issue of high rate of haulage services was discussed.\
In a statement from the Deputy Director, Public Relations, Mrs Rakiya Zubairu , the meeting discussed with the haulers on how to standardize haulage rates.
The statement also said the issue of adherence to health and safety guidelines during this period of COVID-19 pandemic was discussed.
The Council observed that truckers were not taking specified precautions as issued by health authorities.
Following this, they were reminded of their potential to spread the virus in the course of their travels across Nigeria.
The truck owners had during the one hour meeting complained of various problems confronting them.
“These problems range from extortion, laxity on the part of freight forwarders to the current all-present fear of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was agreed at the meeting that truckers haulage rates be reviewed downwards by thirty percent during the lockdown period.
“The haulers agreed with the Council that the light road traffic
makes their work easier.
“The management of the Council assured them that it would look into all their concerns with a view to finding lasting solutions for the benefit of all stakeholders”.
