COVID-19: Buhari Expected to Review Lockdown as Nigeria Records 16 New Cases
President Muhammadu Buhari is this weekend expected to review the 14 day lockdown imposed on Lagos, Ogun states and Abuja as the coronavirus pandemic recorded 16 new cases as at Tuesday.
This indication was given by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, during a visit to Lagos to assess the situation.
Mustapha who is the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, told newsmen that the body will carry out an evaluation of the COVID-19 as a guide to the President to take his decision.
He said, “President Buhari alone will make the decision as to whether the lockdown will stop on its expiration at the 14th day or whether to extend it.
“The president would have to review the recommendations of the team set up to monitor the various measures to curtail the spread of coronavirus and cushion its effects on the people”.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said 10 of the new cases recorded were in Lagos, two each in Abuja and Oyo, while Delta and Katsina states recorded one each.
The new cases bring the total number of cases to 254 confirmed cases.
So far, Lagos has recorded 130 cases, Abuja – 50, Osun- 20, Oyo – 11, Edo – 11, Bauchi – 6, Akwa Ibom – Kaduna – 5 each, Ogun – 4, Enugu – Ekiti, Kwara and Rivers 2 each, Benue, Ondo, Delta and Katsina – one each.
