* AS FIRS collects N1.11 trillion in Q1
President Muhammadu Buhari may have excited Nigerian workers when he said that the current ravaging coronavirus will not stop payment of salaries of workers.
Buhari also said the pandemic will not stop execution of critical projects in the country.
Following this, Buhari has directed the Presidential Committee on the Impact of COVID-19 on the Economy to do everything to ensure that payment of salaries of workers and implementation of critical projects are not stopped.
The President gave the directive when he received members of the Committee who briefed him in Abuja.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed who spoke to newsmen said the President directed that the flow of funds for salaries and critical projects must be sustained.
Among the critical projects identified were road and rail projects.
Members of the committee who met with the President were Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva; Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele and the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Malam Mele Kyari.
Meanwhile, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Thursday announced a revenue generation of N1.11 trillion for the first quarter of this year.
The figure represents an increase of 10.4 per cent over the figure for the same period last year which was N1.04 trillion, according to a statement from the FIRS.
The Director, Communications and Liaison Department, Mr. Abdullahi Ahmad, in the statement said the increase was as a direct result of blockage of leaks in the revenue flow by the wide-ranging reforms introduced by the organization.
