Insistence on Trade Compliance Was Why We Exceeded Revenue Target – Customs ACG

• As APRA President tasks journalists on objective, factual reportage
The Lagos Zonal Coordinator of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mrs Kaycee Akekieze Monday said the organization exceeded its revenue target last year as a result its insistence on compliance to trade regulations by importers.
Akekieze who spoke in Lagos on the occasion of a training programme for journalists organized by the Service said compliance to trade regulation was very important to boost revenue.
She also said the Comptroller-General of the Service, Rtd Col. Hammed Ali believes so much in both punishment and rewards.
She said that the CGC has rewarded many when there was the need for that.
The President of African Public Relations Association (APRA) and Group Managing Director, CMC Connect Limited, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya in a titled ‘’Enhancing National Economy and Reportage through Responsible Reportage’’ called on journalists to be factual, objective and accurate in their duties, adding that this was what makes responsible journalism.
Badejo-Okusanya while identifying some of the challenges among journalists tasked the Customs Service to be open to journalists by giving them information when approached.
Noting the importance of PR in every organistion, he said this should not be limited to only those in the PR department.
The Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Controller of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport(MMIA) Customs Command Comptroller, Mr Wale Adeniyi, in a paper titled ‘Journalism: The Imperative of follow up and investigation’, urged journalists to balance his reports before publishing.
Adeniyi also stressed the need for follow-ups and investigative journalism as necessary for readers.
