The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other-Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Wednesday said it will carry out a probe of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole over allegations of corruption in the recent party primaries .
ICPC said this was following a protest by members of the Coalition 4 New Nigeria who complained of anomalies.
Spokesperson of the ICPC, Rasheedat Okoduwa stated this when the protesters stormed the office of the ICPC.
Okoduwa said what the Commission will do is to ascertain if there is a petition against the APC chairman and if there is, investigate the allegation.
According to him, “ we will first verify whether, indeed, he has a petition against him, and from there, we will look at what they are complaining about.
“Then, the next step is to investigate the petition and see whether there is anything worthy of investigating in the matter.
“It goes through our normal processes. But let me just sound a note of caution. We receive petitions virtually every hour. So, the petitions is like queuing up and had to be addressed in the sequences they come.
“So, if a petition comes right now, you don’t expect it to be investigated before all others before it”.
The protest was led by a human rights activist and lawyer, Stanley Onukwufor.
Some of the placards read: “With Oshiomhole APC is nowhere;’ ‘ICPC, probe Oshiomhole now;’ ‘Buhari, remove Oshiomhole;’ ‘Oshiomhole is corrupt;’ and ‘Oshiomhole must go.”
Oshiomhole had however denied all the allegations of corruption in a Channel TV interview when he said all proceeds for the primaries were paid into party’s bank account.
