20 New Rail Coaches Expected from China in Six Weeks, Says Amaechi
No fewer than 20 new rail coaches are expected in the country in the next six weeks, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said.
The rail coaches are for Abuja-Kaduna and the Lagos-Ibadan rail lines and will be coming from China.
The Minister disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, on his arrival from China.
He added that he traveled along with others for more locomotives and coaches, adding that they will be ready in six weeks.
According to him, “We are expecting 20 coaches, 10 for Abuja-Kaduna and 10 for Lagos-Ibadan as a temporary measure, more will then arrive in the second batch as we complete Lagos-Ibadan.”
He disclosed that the delegation to receive the train had done a test run of the locomotives in China.
The Minister also said that the new trains have been improved and are of higher technology than the one currently in use in Nigeria
