Anti-Smuggling War: Customs Moves to Katsina, Sokoto, Seals Car Marts
After sealing car shops in Lagos as part of its anti-smuggling war, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has now moved to Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfra states.
The operatives of the Service were said to have visited car shops in the states during which they took chassis numbers of the vehicles displayed for sale.
The operation is being carried out by members of the Comptroller-General’s Task Force, apparently showing lack of trust on resident customs officers in the states and Federal Operations units (FOU) saddled with anti-smuggling responsibilities..
Operatives of the Task Force had also sealed some car marts in Lagos Monday.
The Service believes that appropriate duties may not have been collected on some of the cars.
