NRC Warns Against Riding on Train Roof Top
The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) on Thursday told train passengers to stop riding on train roof tops, warning that offenders will be punished.
The corporation said such act is the handiwork of area boys, warning that henceforth it will deal with anyone found on roof top.
Describing the train as the cheapest means of transportation, the Lagos Lagos District Manager of NRC, Mr Jerry Oche said the corporation was not happy about the development and will go to any length to end it.
He said those caught will be handed over to the law enforcement agents, adding that there is no reason why anybody should prefer the roof top.
He was quoted saying, “We have about 15 coaches on a train per trip with 90 people in a coach which is about 1,350 passengers on a trip at a peak period.
“Right now, most of our trains are filled up to full capacity with passengers standing, but we don’t encourage those hanging and those sitting at the rooftop of a moving train.” .
