NPA to Integrate CRFFN into Single Window Portal
The Managing Director, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, Wednesday said the authority will integrate the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) transaction portal into its single window Web portal.
Usman made the promise when members of the Board led by the Chairman, Abubarkar Tsanni, paid a courtesy visit to the NPA head office in Lagos.
Usman explained that the idea is to create a synergy between the NPA and CRFFN.
She told the visiting CRFFN Board members that the management of the NPA will continue to promote an enabling port environment.
She added that the Authority will support the efforts of the CRFFN to have a smooth operation in Nigerian ports.
Abubakar had told the NPA MD that the Council wanted a smooth working relationship that will lead to an efficient service delivery in the ports.
He called for a synergy that will check issue of unauthorized access to the ports, adding that those without legitimate business should not be in the ports.l
He said there was need to issue permit to Registered Freight Forwarders as provided in the CRFFN Act, section 19 [1] , explaining that this will check security breach and unwarranted human traffic.
Abubakar also pointed out the challenges being faced in the ports, including traffic gridlock, long Dwelling Time of Cargo, non-provision of empty containers holding bay by shipping companies.
He added that there was the need to address all types of charges imposed importers which was because Shipping Companies failed to provide Holding Bays.
Abubakar said the CRFFN has created committees to bring about sanity in ports operation.
