CUSTOMS AND NDLEA OFFICIALS ON THE OCCASION OF THE HANDOVER
The Lagos Free Trade Zone Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 400kg of suspected cannabis at Lekki Deep Seaport.
The items were concealed in reams of A4 printing papers in an apparent move to evade detection.
According to the Area Controller incharge of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Olufemi Kukoyi, the items were valued at N2.26 billion.
The items which were intercepted on August 19, have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Command had moved for joint physical examination involving NDLEA, Department of State Services (DSS) and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) following anomalies after a scan of the container where the items were concealed.
Speaking to newsmen, Kukoyi, restated the Command’s commitment to protecting the nation’s ports from criminal exploitation.
The Controller was full of praises for the officers and sister agencies involved, making it clear that trade facilitation does not mean tolerance for smuggling or drug trafficking.
Commander of Narcotics and Area Commander of the NDLEA Lekki Port Area Command, Jonah Achema while welcoming the appointment of the new Controller said the cooperation between the agencies was a good one.
