Ex-NIMASA Ag. DG, Others, Convicted for N136m Fraud
The Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted the former Acting Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Calistus Obi, over a fraud of N136million.
The case was brought against the former Ag. DG by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which dragged him to court on eight-count charge.
The court presided over by Justice Mojishola Olatoregum had found him and others guilty as charged.
Obi who was former Executive Director in charge of Labour was charged along with the aide to the former DG, Alu Dismas, two companies – Grand Pact Ltd. and Global Seal Investment Ltd.
Justice Olatoregun had found Obi guilty on counts five, six, seven and eight, while Dismas was found guilty on counts two and four of the charge.
They were discharged on counts one and three of the charges.
However, the Judge adjourned the case till May 28 to hear plea for mercy from the convicts before delivering sentence.
The suspects were remanded in prison custody why awaiting sentencing.
They had been on bail having pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The EFCC which brought the case against the accused persons said the offence was committed on August 5, 2014.
