CRFFN: Elected Members Mull Plans to Probe Past Administrations
Members of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) are currently considering plans to probe the council to ascertain how the funds which were received by the agency have been utilized in the past 10 years.
It was gathered that the latest development followed statements credited to the founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr Boniface Aniebonam
and former Chairman of the Council, Aaree Hakeem Olanrewaju in which both called for the probe.
Aniebonam had first alleged a lot of irregularities in the finances of the Council and had called for a probe of past administrations of the Council.
The allegation by the Nagaff founder was seen by Olanrewaju as over generalization following which he called for a probe to cover for 10 yeas period of the Council.
Anibonam in an exclusive interview with SHIPPING DAY called on the new Chairman of the Board of the Council, Alhaji Tsanni Abubakar and members to look into the accounts of the past administrations of CRFFN, saying that this was because a lot of money has gone down the drain.
The NAGAFF founder said this was why the Council is currently finding it difficult to function.
He alleged that misappropriation in CRFFN was the reason why the Council is currently handicapped, saying the new Board has no funds to function.
He told SHIPPING DAY, “I think the current chairman must look at the accounts of the past administrations of CRFFN because a lot money has gone down the drain. We are watching to see what will happen. A lot of money through the personal account of CRFFN has been misappropriated, serious money and that is why they are handicapped, they don’t have money to take off”.
But reacting to Aniebonam’s statement Aaree Hakeem Olanrewaju, said “thoughts of this magnitude, brazenly uttered without substantiation, tilts towards causing undue insinuations and incitement among the practitioners”.
In a statement sent to SHIPPING DAY, Olarenwaju said the NAGAFF founder should have been specific as to whose administration witnessed such financial irregularities.
He however supported that the current Chairman of the Council, should deem it necessary to carry out an audit of the Council’s accounts from 2008 to 2018.
SHIPPING DAY gathered that following this development, the elected Council members are of the view that the accounts of the agency should indeed be probed covering 10 years period .
A member of the Council who pleaded anonymity told SHIPPING DAY that the Council members believe this was the best way forward for the regulatory agency.
The member said this will also set the record straight and equally serve as a guide to the present leadership for accountability in all its activities.
