The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has described the location of Abuja as well as its vast agro-allied nature as clear attributes that can grow the nation’s export sector.
Dantsoho who spoke at the Abuja International Trade Fair during the NPA Special Day, said such potential makes Abuja as a powerhouse needed to grow the nation’s economy.
He noted that Abuja’s unique geography provides seamless port-hinterland connectivity that links the country’s regions and capable of unlocking massive opportunities for farmers as well as small businesses.
He said with these, exporters can plug directly into global markets.
The NPA MD said, “Abuja’s centrality gives us the advantage of connecting value creators across the federation to international demand clusters,” adding that NPA is determined to simplify exports, eliminate bottlenecks, and make Nigerian products globally competitive.
Dantsoho pointed out the organisation’s reforms, including the establishment of Export Processing Terminals (EPTs) as one-stop shops for cargo consolidation, documentation, packaging, certification, and swift electronic shipment to ports — eliminating delays and red tape that previously crippled exports.
He also explained that EPTs are now integrated with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs) and Inland Dry Ports in collaboration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), giving Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) a structured pathway into the export value chain.
For the purpose of transparency, Dantsoho announced the rollout of the “Ports Community System (PCS) — a unified transaction gateway designed to dovetail into the National Single Window (NSW), a global best practice platform that streamlines all trade interactions “at the push of a button.”
He explained that the system will permanently dismantle bureaucratic bottlenecks, curb opacity, and fast-track Nigeria’s export competitiveness.
According to him, “Our doors are open for partnerships beyond this fair. With PCS and NSW, we are laying the foundation to link even the remotest farmer or SME in Nigeria to the farthest global demand clusters.”
The NPA boss urged investors, exporters, and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities now available through NPA’s simplified export systems and explore its interactive offerings.
