The Area Controller of the Apapa Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr. Babatunde Olomu on Monday disclosed that the Command now collects as much as N18.9bn revenue generation daily.
Olomu disclosed that the new record breaks the daily record of N18.2bnby the Command,
The Controller said this was a good development, the beginning of greater exploits as far as the Command is concerned in 2025.
He said the development was due to the commitment of officers to their duty as well as compliance by importers and the support from the Comptroller General to the Command.
Olomu disclosed that acting on the directive of the CGC, the Command had to spearhead discussions with the Nigerian Ports Authority to resolve issues of the Eto’o call up system with port users and truckers that had caused gridlock along the Apapa Port corridor.
The Command also ensured that the planned withdrawal of service by maritime workers and freight forwarders as a result of unresolved issues with APM Terminals was addressed.
This helped in preventing the shutdown of activities at the port.
The Controller told newsmen, ” Ports are critical national assets with direct impacts on the economy touching on local and global trade. It is, therefore, imperative to keep the ports working, especially Apapa Port, which accounts for the highest volume of cargoes coming into Nigeria.
“In line with the directives of the CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR who has promotion of robust stakeholders engagement as one of his cardinal thrust, we intervened in the disputes involving sister government agencies, terminal operators and stakeholders in the port..
“It is heartwarming to note that our intervention succeeded in promoting uninterrupted trade and strengthening port users’ confidence”
” Our record-breaking achievement of ₦18.9b daily collection on Friday, March 14 , 2025 is the beginning of greater exploits to be attained this year. We are also not lowering our guard in the fight against smuggling as our officers are ever ready to detect concealments, under declaration, false declaration, and other antics geared towards duty evasion,” .
